PH offers US Nueva Ecija, Palawan, Zambales to help address threats
“It is easier for us to support our patrols in the West Philippines Sea and it allows us to address the issues and threats in the West Philippines Sea,” Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief General Emmanuel Bautista said. This statement from AFP chief is regarding the three bases Philippines is to offer for US troops and hardwares under EDCA.
First in the list is Fort Magsaysay. “These are our traditional training areas. We need to develop Fort Magsaysay to be a world class training facility not just for our armed forces but also for our training with our allies,” said the chief in an exclusive with ABS-CBN News.
“This is also true for our San Miguel [Naval Satation] in Zambales. Oyster Bay [in Western Palawan] is still underdeveloped but we need to improve Oyster Bay for our armed forces. Perhaps with the EDCA, that can be facilitated,” Bautista explained.
According to the AFP chief these three bases will be developed under EDCA, putting up bigger airstrips or airport, docking stations, and barracks that will both benefit US and Philippines.
It was reported that US will ask for Camp Aguinaldo, Clark and Subic. Bases for US to accomodate rotating troops will still be finalized.
