Navy acquiring 2 anti-submarine helicopters
The Department of National Defense posted the invitation to bid for Philippine Navy’s Anti-Submarine Helicopters worth PhP 5.4 billion. The first stage bidding process will take place on June 3, 2014 at Camp Aguinaldo. The contract includes munition, mission essential equipment, and integrated logistic support. The bidding will undergo two-stage bidding; second stage of bidding will be announced.
Bidding documents is available for interested parties at DND in the amount of PhP75, 000. Winning bidder will have to deliver the helicopters in 730 days.
The Navy, having two anti-submarine helicopters, will be much more effective in protecting Philippine territories. Early reports said, Navy is eying for AgustaWestland-159 “Wildcat” and, while waiting for two new frigates, will be deployed to BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (PF-15) and BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PF-16).
The AW159 is capable as a battlefield utility, search and rescue and anti-surface warfare helicopter. It has beem ordered for the Royal Navy and British Army, and will be in service with the British Army in 2014 and Royal Navy in 2015. Also, South Korea had ordered eight AW159 for search-and-rescue missions, anti-submarine warfare and surveillance and will be in service on 2015 or 2016.
